Draw at 500×500 or larger when possible. Downscaling preserves clean edges; enlarging a tiny source cannot recreate missing detail.

Twitch emote sizes and requirements
Twitch emotes use three square dimensions: 112×112, 56×56 and 28×28 pixels. The smallest file is what viewers normally see in chat, so every design must remain clear at 28 pixels.

Use transparent PNG
PNG preserves transparent backgrounds and clean edges. Avoid a baked-in square background unless it is part of the design.
Test the 28px version
Thin text, subtle shading and tiny accessories often disappear. Use thick outlines, high contrast and one clear focal expression.

What size are Twitch emotes?
The standard Twitch emote set is 112x112, 56x56 and 28x28 pixels. Each image is square. The 28px version is the normal chat display size, while the larger files support higher-density displays.
Can Twitch resize my emote automatically?
Twitch can generate smaller versions from a single larger upload when automatic resizing is available. Exporting all three sizes yourself still lets you inspect the 28px result and fix details that become unreadable after shrinking.
Should Twitch emotes be PNG or JPG?
Use PNG when the emote needs a transparent background. JPG does not support transparency. Twitch also supports animated emotes through its animated-emote workflow, which has different preparation requirements from a static PNG.
Why does an emote look blurry in Twitch chat?
The source may be too small, or the design may contain details that disappear at 28 pixels. Start with larger square artwork, use thick outlines and high contrast, and preview the final 28x28 output before uploading.
